Eksdom, Sousolie think natural gas is renewable energy?

Now here is a statement that just says it all:
“South Africa’s problems was that it did not have renewable energy sources such as natural gas to replace coal, a high emitter.”
Natural gas? Renewable? Coal? A high emitter? WTF?
And these guys are sitting at the table as part of the SA delegation? Or was that just something out of a bad dream? Is this all maybe just a bad dream?

Climate Change White Paper public hearings: Chamber of Mines, Eskom, Industry Task Team on Climate Change, Sasol, Association of Cementitious Material Producers

http://www.pmg.org.za/report/20111108-public-hearings-national-climate-change-white-paper-2011

“Sasol and Eskom both pointed out that one of South Africa’s problems was that it did not have renewable energy sources such as natural gas to replace coal, a high emitter. However, both were getting into the renewable energy sector through projects already seeded and under-way.”

No doubt renewable shale gas and methane coal bed gas?

And then there was this:

“Members expressed concern that the Government did not have its own research report on the externalities of coal to counter a recent report published by Greenpeace.

Eskom said its independent study was under-way on the externalities of coal.” (Eskom’s independent study on externalities of coal???!!! No, was it a bad dream? It is a bad dream.! We are locked into a nightmare! Help, are there any sane people out there?)

“The Committee reminded delegates that the discussions on the policy had not ended and that there would be opportunities to engage on the policy in the coming year.” (Oh boy, that will certainly give these jokers time to unravel any compromises made leading up to COP17!).

There are pages more outrageous material linked to this hearing.

Thanks for sharing this PMG!
