Sierra Club, Other NGOs Demand Parties to COP 17
Get Their Heads Out of the Sand
Media Event/Photo Opportunity at North Beach on the beach/Great Visuals
WHO:             Jim Dougherty, Director, Sierra Club, Sierra Student Coalition, Canadian Youth Delegation, Sierra Club members and other NGOs

WHEN:          10:00 AM, Friday, December 2, 2011

WHERE:       On the Beach at near North Beach Life Guard Station

WHAT:          Join climate activists on the beach at North Beach with their heads in the sand wearing the flags of Nations across the globe that are failing to act effectively to address climate change. Our message to the United States and other countries obstructing progress on climate: Get your heads out of the sand! And in the case of Canada and Great Britain, get their heads out of the Tar Sands.

WHY:             The absence of progress at recent COPs ignores the advancing impacts of climate change on people across the globe.  The intransigence of the United States Congress, in particular, is most disturbing for the Sierra Club, the oldest and largest grassroots environmental NGO in the United States.

About conferenceofpolluters

This blog is an activist resource for COP17 in Durban. The baseline assumption is that the UNFCCC process cannot deliver an equitable, binding and ambitious outcome, and is a space for government elites and multinational corporations to conspire against the people. Share your tactics (but not details please), possible targets and creative ideas for obstructing the process.
